Pace Systems writes custom software and integrations in Naperville, for businesses and public bodies.
We build web and mobile applications, internal business systems and the links between systems that were never made to work together, and each new project starts from your requirements and a written specification so you know exactly what you’re getting before we start.

Already running
More than 650 municipal clients run software we write.
That software is the Pace Municipal Suite, and the largest of its five programs is Pace Scheduler, which police, sheriff, fire and dispatch agencies across the US and Canada use to schedule their people on the web and in an app for iOS and Android.
Its payroll exports are actually custom integration work, because every one of them joins the scheduling program to a payroll program from a different vendor. Every export is written for a particular payroll program, and when an agency runs one we haven’t written for yet, we write a new export with its payroll expert.
“Pace’s team of developers are great and worked with us on custom development until everything was just right.”

Business applications
Office work that lives in spreadsheets can become an application.
We write every application to a specification we’ve agreed with you first, and it runs on your servers or in the cloud, whichever your IT team prefers.
01
Payroll and HR
We write payroll and personnel modules for the work your office does by hand today.
02
Purchase orders, sales orders and invoices
A request moves to approval and then to an invoice without anyone having to type it again.
03
Accounts payable and receivable
Bills you have to pay and payments due to you are tracked in the same program.
04
Inventory
Stock is counted by location, and the counts change as soon as items move.
05
Time and expenses
Hours and costs are reported against each job, so you can see what a job actually cost.
06
Sales and commissions
Reports figure out what each salesperson sold and what they earned on it.
07
Business intelligence
Reports draw their figures from the databases your offices keep today, so nobody has to rebuild the numbers by hand.
08
Mobile apps for field staff
Staff who work away from a desk enter their work on a phone or a tablet while they’re still on the job.
Integration
When two systems can’t talk, we write the connection.
If an order has to be typed into one system and then again into another, we write the connection between them so that it only gets typed once.
We work with REST and SOAP APIs and with custom web services, and we connect SQL Server Reporting Services and Microsoft Dynamics, Crestron and other AV control systems, security products and databases of many kinds. The connection can run on your servers, in virtual machines or containers, or in the cloud, depending on what your IT team wants to look after.

How a project runs
Nothing gets built until you’ve agreed the specification with us.
01 / 04
Requirements
You tell us what the software has to do, who will use it and which systems it has to connect. If it’s a system you already have, we start from what it does today and the workflows around it.
02 / 04
Specification
We turn your requirements into a detailed written specification with you, and nothing is built until both sides have agreed it, so there are no surprises about what you’re getting.
AgreedIn writing, before any code
03 / 04
Build
Our developers build the software to that specification, as a web application, an app for phones and tablets or the connection between two systems.

Upkeep
Once the software is running, we keep improving and maintaining it the same way we do for the Pace Municipal Suite, so the people who wrote it are the people you call.

Questions buyers ask
Questions buyers ask about custom software
What kinds of software does Pace write?
Pace writes web applications, apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, and internal business systems such as payroll and HR modules, purchase-order and invoice workflows, inventory, time and expenses, sales commissions and business-intelligence reports. We also write connections between systems, for instance a payroll export from a scheduling program.
Can Pace connect the systems we already have?
Yes. Pace Scheduler’s payroll exports are one example, and we also connect Microsoft Dynamics, SQL Server Reporting Services, Crestron and other AV control systems and security products, over REST or SOAP APIs or custom web services.
How does a project start?
A project starts with your business requirements, which we turn into a detailed written specification with you before we build to it. If you’re improving a system you already have, we start from what it does today.
Who maintains the software afterward?
We do, from Naperville, in the same way we create, improve and maintain the Pace Municipal Suite for its clients across the US and Canada.
Your project
Tell Pace what the software must do.
Describe the work, who will use it and which systems it has to connect, and someone on our team will reply to you. If the project goes ahead, the first thing we do is write the specification with you.
