Blue network patch cables on a rack in the foreground, framing the imaging lab’s long benches of monitors and pallets of boxed laptops at Pace’s building in Naperville.

Pace configures your switches and access points in Naperville, then installs them with cable.

Pace Systems builds networks and Wi-Fi for schools, colleges, cities and businesses. If your site is around Chicago, our IBEW Local 134 electricians pull the Category 6 cable and the fiber and our crews install the equipment. If it’s anywhere else in the US, we ship the equipment configured and labeled, so your staff can simply plug it in.

What we put in

Switches, Wi‑Fi and firewalls come with their cable.

  • A wireless access point installed flush in a ceiling, inside a locked white enclosure set into the ceiling grid, its blue status light on.
  • 01

    Switching

We configure and label the core and access switches in our Naperville lab before they go out, so every switch is ready to mount when it reaches your closet.

  • 02

    Wi-Fi

We lay out the access points from a survey of the building, for coverage and for the number of people who will use them at once.

    Surveyed room by room

  • 03

    Firewalls

We set up perimeter and internal firewalls to whatever rules your IT staff set.

    Manufacturers: Fortinet

  • 04

    Copper cabling

We run Category 6 and 6A cable to every access point, so one company answers for the cable and for the equipment on it.

  • 05

    Fiber

We run fiber between closets and between buildings, and it carries the traffic from each closet back to the core of the network.

  • 06

    Power and UPS

We supply APC and Eaton UPS units with the network equipment, and our electricians run any new circuits the job needs.

How a job runs

Six steps take your network from survey to handover.

One account manager looks after the job from your first call, and every step is done by our people, so nothing falls between two contractors when the cable and the switches meet.

How a job runs

01 / 06

Survey

We walk the building and survey the wireless, room by room, for coverage and for how many people will use it at once. The access points are laid out from that survey, not from a guess on a floor plan.

What we ask you forThe floor plans and a head count

02 / 06

Design

Our engineers draw the switching and the closet layouts and write a bill of materials, so you can either put the job out to bid or buy it on your cooperative contract.

03 / 06

Configure

We set up and label the switches and access points in our Naperville lab, so they’re ready to mount when they reach your building. If your site is outside the Chicago region, it ships to you from here, configured and labeled.

04 / 06

Install

On sites around Chicago, our electricians pull the Category 6 and 6A cable and the fiber between closets, and our crews mount the switches and access points on the same job.

05 / 06

Test

We test each run of copper and fiber once it’s in and record the result. That information goes into your handover and proves the cable passed on the day we finished.

06 / 06

Hand over

We walk your IT staff through what we installed and hand over the records of the job, closet by closet, before we call it finished.

The handoverThree things you keep

Networks we’ve put in

Two arenas, a hotel and a college use our networks.

Wintrust Arena at McCormick Place

Cisco network and broadcast cabling

We put in the arena’s Cisco network and the cable that carries its broadcasts to eight parts of the arena.

The Palmer House

Cabling and power for hotel-wide Wi-Fi

We ran the cabling and the power for more than 1,200 Wi-Fi access points, and scheduled the work around the hotel’s operations.

An arena’s seating bowl seen from the upper rows, with the lights on in the roof and chairs set out in rows on the floor.

Village of Hoffman Estates

NOW Arena Wi-Fi and a mobile camera trailer

We put Wi-Fi across both levels of NOW Arena and installed video surveillance for the village, including a mobile camera trailer.

Daley College’s building, with the college’s name in large letters on a yellow band along its wall, and people walking past on the path.

Daley College, City Colleges of Chicago

Power and systems for a new engineering center

We did the electrical work, the fire alarm, the security systems, the AV and the network for the college’s new 57,000-square-foot center.

Every case study

The handover

At the end of a job, you keep three things.

We do this so that the next person who opens the closet knows what’s in it, even if that person doesn’t work for us.

  1. The drawings

As-built drawings that show what went where, closet by closet

  2. The test results

A result for every cable run we put in

  3. The serial numbers

Every device’s serial number and MAC address, listed together

E-Rate and contracts

Schools can pay with E‑Rate, and public bodies on contract.

Wi-Fi and switching inside schools and libraries are the kind of internal connections E-Rate helps pay for, and USAC’s eligible services list says what qualifies each year.

A city, a school district or a college may be able to buy the same work on a cooperative contract its purchasing office is already a member of, instead of putting the work out to bid. Anyone else can simply send us a purchase order.

Does Pace run the cabling as well as the switches and access points?

Yes, on sites around Chicago, our IBEW Local 134 electricians pull Category 6 and 6A cable to every access point and fiber between closets and buildings, and our crews install the switches and access points.

Can switches and access points be configured before they arrive?

Yes, we configure and label them in our Naperville lab before they reach your building. If you’re outside the Chicago region, they ship to you configured and labeled, so your staff only need to plug them in.

Which contracts can we buy a network on?

TIPS members can buy on contract 230105, OMNIA Partners members on contract 01-169 through Promark Technology, and Illinois public universities through IPHEC. Anyone else can send us a purchase order, and your purchasing office decides whether a contract meets its rules.

What does Pace hand over at the end of a job?

You get the as-built drawings, a test result for every cable run we put in, and every device’s serial number and MAC address, listed together, so whoever opens the closet next knows what’s in it.

A network quote

Send Pace the address and the floor plans.

Tell us how many people will use the network too, and we’ll survey the building, design the network and quote it on your contract, or on E-Rate if you’re a school or a library.
