Case studyNetworks and Wi-FiElectrical
Pace Systems ran the cabling and power for more than 1,200 Wi-Fi access points at the Palmer House in Chicago.
1,200+Wi-Fi access points throughout the hotel, cabled and powered by our crews
The Palmer House wanted Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. That meant more than 1,200 access points, every one needing a cable and power, and new network closets close enough to feed them, all fitted into a hotel that had to keep running while we worked.
We built more than 40 new network closets around the hotel and fed every one of them with a separate armored single-mode fiber home run, so no closet relies on another to reach the network. Each closet got an exhaust fan to carry off the heat from its equipment.
From the closets we ran Category 6 cable to every access point, and our electricians added the new 120-volt circuits the work needed. A hotel doesn’t close for its cabling, so we sequenced the whole installation around the hotel’s operations instead of asking it to work around us.
We used Corning fiber and Berk-Tek and Leviton copper, and the finished installation was certified for a 25-year manufacturer warranty, which means the hotel is covered for the cable and the connections long after our crews have left.
The electricians on our crews are members of IBEW Local 134, and they worked to our written 56-page construction safety program and to a safety plan written for this site.
Wi-Fi now reaches every part of the hotel, and the hotel has brought us back since for interior and exterior lighting, more fiber, variable-frequency drive replacements, and service of its neon sign and lobby lighting.

We’ll quote the cabling, the closets and the power from your drawings, and if your building has to stay open while we work, tell us, because we plan the job around it.
The earlier the floor plans reach us, the sooner we can walk the building and price the job.
